1. Speak Clearly and Stay Close to the Microphone
Ensure that you and the patient enunciate clearly and are not too far from the microphone to support accurate transcription.
2. Clarify Patient Responses
If a patient’s response is unclear, repeat it clearly yourself. This helps confirm your understanding and gives AutoScribe a better input for accurate note generation.
3. Verbalize Everything
AutoScribe only captures what is spoken — it cannot infer your thoughts. Make it a habit to articulate your observations, reasoning, and plan verbally.
4. Say Physical Exam Findings Out Loud
As you conduct physical maneuvers, verbalize your findings. This informs the patient and allows AutoScribe to automatically include the findings in your note.
5. Use Pause and Resume for Note Dictation
Prefer adding commentary after the patient leaves?
At the end of the encounter, click Pause instead of End Encounter.
Once the patient leaves, click Resume and dictate additional notes.
AutoScribe intelligently distinguishes between doctor–patient dialogue and clinician dictation.
6. Use the Scratchpad for Private Notes
Need to capture details you don’t want to say aloud?
Write them in the Scratchpad. Anything added there will automatically be included in the final note.
7. Use the Patient Handout Feature
To improve patient understanding and retention:
After ending the encounter, select the Patient Handout tool.
Click Generate to produce a clear, plain-language summary that can be printed or emailed to the patient.
8. Switch Templates Based on Encounter Type (Tier 2 & 3 Users)
After ending an encounter, use the dropdown menu above the note area to switch templates (e.g., from SOAP note to a standard medical note) to match clinical needs.
9. Optimize Your Screen Layout
For seamless workflow, resize your AutoScribe browser window into a narrow column alongside your EMR. This eliminates the need to switch back and forth between windows, similar to the workflow in the integrated OSCAR-EMR version.
10. Share Your Feedback
Your feedback drives continuous improvement.
